Jim Mullan is a self-taught artist from Southern California who creates one-of-a-kind steampunk bird sculptures using found objects. He travels all over the world to collect antique objects, vintage hardware, bird carvings, watches to construct unique pieces of jewelry, boxes, mirrors and bird sculptures.
Jim begins by hand painting each bird and then adds a natural material as well as vintage pieces when creating the sculptures. His bird sculptures often consists of unusual things such as croquet balls, binoculars and old cameras which gives each bird its own personality. The objects that were thrown away considered as useless are used in his work demonstrating the fragile balance between nature and industry.
