'Welcome into the future' - Light Projections on Sculptures

Dutch design studios Sober Industries and Studio Rewind collaborated in 2011 for a project called "Welcome to the Future" that featured wooden sculptures of an owl and a rhinoceros. The exhibit took place during the annual event Rotterdamse Museumnacht 2011 (Netherlands) where the visitors were able to control the projected visuals by a custom-made motion sensor that made the colors of the visuals change on being titled and by pressing buttons that skipped through the lighting options. The constantly changing patterns created an enchanting and entertaining display for the audiences creating an impression as if the creatures were alive and moving. Must watch the video to see the event in action.

Creatures From the Dark - Made by Joel

"Creatures From the Dark" was a contribution by Made by Joel for BIG Kids magazine's "Into the Dark" issue. This simple and a great paper craft idea comes with a template which can be downloaded and printed to try with your little one. Adding a small light behind the scene and turning all the lights in the room off makes it a freak-y fun! Cool idea to keep your kids' guests entertained on birthday and Halloween parties.

Loreto Salinas and Her Animales

I adore these little creatures by Loreto Salinas an illustrator from Santiago, Chile. She loves to draw animals, her first two books "Animales Chilenos" and "Animales Argentinos" were dedicated to animals and quickly became popular. Her animals are often shown with big eyes, rosy cheeks in cheerful splash of colors that's sure to make anyone smile.  She has participated in group exhibitions and have worked for publishers, advertising agencies, private and other personal projects.

Colorized X-Ray Photographs By Arie Van't Riet

Barn Owl

Tawny Owl

Water lily, marsh marigold, lily leaves, frog

Hanging Begonia, Chameleon

Bird of paradise, Chameleon

Trachycarpus wagnerianus, azalea, turtles

Arie van 't Riet  is a Holland based physicist who studied radiation physics at Delft University of Technology and obtained his PhD from Utrecht University. He became an artist by an accident when his friend asked him to x-ray one of his paintings. It was his first time doing something like that but it worked and he got curious about what other objects could he x-ray. He started with a bouquet of tulips which resembled a black and white negative. After the image was digitized and colorized in Photoshop, he got stunning and interesting results. He calls these beautiful works "bioramas."

From flowers he gradually moved to animals. He uses only dead animals for his work, animals who were killed in traffic accidents and recently deceased pets of friends so no live animal is harmed with radiation.

From his website, "I prefer [to] X-ray objects of ordinary scenes like a butterfly nearby a flower, a fish in the ocean, a mouse in the field, a heron along the riverside, a bird in a tree and so on. Each time it is challenging me to arrive at an X-ray photograph that represents the sentiment of the scene, to raise questions and excite curiosity. I hope, in most of the images presented here, I succeeded."
