Jonathan Smith

retro-owls1

Jonathan Smith has been a ceramic artist for over 35 years and has worked with number of brands like Wedgwood, Tiffany (New York) , Royal Worcester and Jamie Oliver. Now he has started designing his products for himself and selling them on Folksy shop. He made this adorable retro style inspired owl salt & pepper shaker set. He was inspired by the owls that were made at Hornsea pottery and designed by John Clappison who Jonathan worked with at Hornsea.  After many test and experiments he succeeded in producing a wonderful semi matt rustic glaze in green and a mustard yellow. Jonathan loves English slip trailing, so he hand decorated the owls eyes using the traditional techniques that makes each owl unique.

Whimsical Wedding in the Woods

I love everything about Nichole and Jeff's whimsical wedding in the woods of Big Sur, CA. They wanted their wedding to feel like a joyful picnic attended by their closest friends and family. Nichole and Jeff both are artist and love to shop at thrift stores so most of the vintage dishes, mugs and decorations for the wedding were either collected or made by them.

They incorporated tons of fun elements in their wedding that reflected their personalities like hand crafted mushroom decorations, animal masks and lots and lots of vintage owls. "Since we both love animals and also collect vintage owl and deer items, those had to be in the wedding too!"

My favorite has to be the amazing owl tree. "The owl tree was the biggest project that we accomplished together. We wanted a unique way for guests to find their seat and also give them a small remembrance to take home with them that they actually might hang onto".

The theme, the location, attention to details, color scheme and use of charming vintage things all of it make this wedding so much fun and unique that's far from traditional.
