Margaret Meyer

Margaret Meyer is a painter, sculptor, costumer and an illustrator living in Portland, Oregon. She has worked as a costume designer for the famous characters in "Caroline", "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack", "Robot Chicken" and "Morel Orel". I find her artwork fascinating and characters whimsical. The owls in her work are most intriguing to me. They have Alice in Wonderland feel to them just like the rest of her characters. She has an online store on Etsy where she has a collection of prints for sale. Her prints are mounted on wood plaques or placed into vintage frames starting at just $10!

Have a happy, happy weekend!

Sac Magique

An awesome packaging by the illustrator Sac Magique for NK children’s department. The packaging features graphics of an owl, a monkey, a crocodile and a rabbit in beautiful muted colors. "The drawings come to life in gift boxes where each animal’s main characteristic pops out and creates a function: the crocodile’s mouth doubles as the box’s lid and the pink silk wrapper becomes the animals tongue." This design won  The Swedish Design Award in 2010, an award which recognizes talent in the category of Printed Identity - Packaging. His portfolio can be viewed here.

A Tale Of A Bored Owl

the little owl is bored
he starts playing with the cup

plays some more...
and more...

turns it...

climbs it...

finally, the owl is tired from all the activity and decides to rest
Sweg makes adorable felt animals including donkey, fox, pig and owl. This snowy owl is a special one. Why? Because he has done a great job at keeping himself busy playing with the cup when he was bored out of his mind. I think he earns the title of a wise guy :)

Claire Platt

Claire Platt is a London based conceptual textile artist who has done her MA in Design from Bath Spa University. Her work is mostly inspired by airplanes and birds. Her work is a unique combination of embroidery and knitting that results in a delight and shows her artistic potential. Some of her handknitted owls are sold at her online store here.

Amy Allison: Ceramics

I love the ceramics by paper and clay artist Amy Allison the owner of brand Soda By Amy. The owl cup is handmade in porcelain and features the "Ms. owl" illustration etched into the surface before finally being glazed. It can be used as a cup, vase or for storing colors in your studio.

Hooty Street Of Gingerbread Houses

Today, I introduce you to three owl couples who live in their gorgeous gingerbread houses on a Hooty Street. Natasha Collins made these lovely gingerbread houses and inhabited them with three owl couples each with a very interesting life story. Let me give you a glimpse at it "This is a little story about some of the residents who live on Hooty Street. It is a fashionable street on the nice side of town and attracts many admiring glances from passers-by. It is the kind of street where people move to raise their owlets and then never leave." To read the complete stories of these owls go to Natasha's blog. You'll soon discover (just like me) that she is not only great at baking amazing creations but also a gifted  teller of intriguing tales.

The Owl and The Pussycat: Bonnie and Bill Rutherford Lear

Do you too find it fascinating that the same story can be told by a different story-tellers in their own unique style? Edward Lear's The Owl and The Pussycat is a classic love story which has been illustrated by many artists. The shown illustrations are by Bonnie and Bill Rutherford Lear of a charming owl and lovely pussycat, published in 1968. Many of us know this love story and enjoy it till today. Amy who has loved the book since her childhood was kind enough to sent me the images from the book to share here. The illustrations are incredibly realistic, and every page is chock full of beautiful colors and awesomeness. There are only a few copies left of this vintage beauty at amazon.
