New Wonderful Paper Sculptures by Helen Musselwhite

Helen Musselwhite is a well-known (and one of my favorite) paper artist whose work have been featured on the blog before. I am always curious about the latest work by the artists I love, and visit their website from time to time in hope to find owl-some creation.

On my recent visit to Helen Musselwhite website I discovered many more amazing paper sculptures she created for number of projects since the last time I shared her work with you. Her sculptures consist of many layers of colored paper layered on each other to give the piece a three dimensional feel. Her work is often nature inspired and filled with decorative detail  that you can stare at all day. "As you’ll gather from my work, a lot of my inspiration comes from the British countryside. The beauty of it never ceases to amaze me."

Piñata Inspired Paper Bird Sculptures by Roberto Benavidez

Roberto Benavidez was born and raised in South Texas and is presently living in Los Angeles. In 2009, he professionally started to work as a sculptor and made a piñata as his very first project. Over the years, his art has become more intricate and complex. He crafts paper bird sculptures inspired by the traditional craft of piñata making.

"I was intrigued by the idea of taking the piñata form, something seen as cheap and disposable, and moving it into the arena of fine art. I feel that my sculptural forms and fringing techniques set my work apart from what most people think of as a typical piñata and the themes are more complex than is typical."

His piñatas consists of multiple layers of different colored papers and have lovely texture. Birds are often the primary subject matter in his work, however Benavidez has also crafted other creatures, sugar skull and even painting piñatas. Visit his Instagram to see more pictures and videos of the process of making these amazing sculptures.
