Delightful Hand-carved Wooden Sculptures by Awoodz

Hi everyone! I hope you guys have been enjoying your visits to the blog. I'll like to wrap up for the weekend with these delightful wooden creatures by Awoodz Designs. These little guys are hand-carved by the artists who are a husband and a wife team from Ukraine. The animal sculptures have a rustic and a feel of timelessness to them. Their pieces have lots of rich texture and beautiful colors, they look like a heirloom piece one would have received from their grandparents.

You must check out their online store for more wooden sculptures, boxes, combs, frames, lemon juicers, trays and much, much more!

Have a great weekend!

Paintings Exploring Similarities Between Human World and Other Living Organisms by Tiffany Bozic

Self-taught artist Tiffany Bozic (blogged previously) is currently working and living in San Francisco, California. Her paintings have a distinct style that often feature hybrid animals and plants that come from her imagination. In her work, she aims to demonstrate similarities between the human world and other living organisms, such as the process of reproduction, emotions, growth and the struggle for survival. She get inspiration for her wide range of work from closely observing nature and her constant exploration of nature with her husband who is an ornithologist. She paints mostly on wood using washes of acrylic paints building layer by layer. She has learnt and developed her own technique of masking and staining the maple panels she uses to paint on.

Tiffany has complied her work from the last six years in her recently launched book "Unnatural Selections”. The artist shares here “Since my paintings vary so widely from one to the next, I feel it’s important to be able to see them together as a continual ecosystem. Each contributes something to a larger dialog, and together they explore how we relate to each other and the natural world.” Her art has been exhibited all over the US and has been made a part to the permanent collection at the U.S. Embassy.

Fabric Postcards Stitched With Wildlife Portraits

Kathryn Harmer is a mixed media artist who primarily works in textile. She "paints" on fabric with thread and needle using her sewing machine like one would use a pencil to draw. “I draw from photographs and life and then re-interpret those sketches with the medium of fabric and thread."

Her work is inspired by nature and her love for the animals. Her series called "Postcard" depicts wild animals from Africa and Australia stitched in fabric. The artist uses inks and paints and embeds fibers such as tulle and organzas which she then stitches in an array of colors brings her subjects to life.

These animals are available as fabric panels printed onto cotton fabric perfect for quilting or to frame, find them here.

Intricate Sculptures Made Using Discarded Books by Isobelle Ouzman

Isobelle Ouzman is a paper artist currently living in Seattle, WA. She creates three dimensional fairy-tale inspired narratives often featuring owls, birds and landscapes using discarded materials. It all started when she saw a box of old hardback novels by a dumpster and decided to take them home with her to give them a second chance.

"I pour my enthusiasm for nature and fairy-tales into every page I work with, in hopes of creating just a little bit of magic. I am a quiet lady, but my imagination is wild and noisy, and these books full of words allow me to speak the images that weave through my mind, daily."

The books she uses to make her art are either damaged, discarded or donated by people who no longer want them. She carefully repairs the books before she begins to carve into them. To make these altered books she uses micron pens, watercolor pencils, an x-acto knife and glue. Depending on the intricacy of the piece, it can take anywhere from two to three months to finish a book.

Artist Paints Wildlife Posing With Flower Bouquets Against Beautiful Background

Heather Gauthier is mostly a self-taught artist. She spent over a decade living and working in Chicago and Africa before she moved to San Antonio. She has always been interested in creating things, drawing and painting nature inspired artwork where wildlife thrives. She spent her early years of childhood with her brother who was intrigued by art and they both relied on their imagination for creating artwork. Her years of exploration helped hone her skills and she created a distinct style that comes from her deep love for aesthetics.

Her work is bold and filled with rich colors. She is inspired by vintage and contemporary graphic and textile designs. She adds a playful feel to her work by adding beads, hats and flowers to her animals who pose against damask style backgrounds.

She creates these paintings from her home studio, and shows her work at local cafes and galleries. Her work has been featured on the PBS program ARTS and HGTV, and has become a part of the permanent collection at the new children's museum in San Antonio.
