Japanese Artist Creates Art Using Separate Layers of Papercut and Collage











Mayuko Fujino is a self-taught paper artist who was born in Tokyo and currently lives in New York City. She specializes in dual layered paper artwork that comprises of the front layer of papercut illustration and the back layer collage constructed with magazine pages. Her inspiration comes from traditional Japanese stencil textile designs which gives her work a fluid and decorative feel.

Her work has been exhibited all over the globe including Old Jaffa Museum (Tel Aviv, Israel), Fuller Craft Museum (Brockton, MA), Pelham Art Center (Pelham, NY, USA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark (Copenhagen, Denmark), SOFA Art Fair (New York, NY, USA), and UAMO Art Festival (Munich, Germany). She has designed for clients such as New York City’s Department of Transportation, Nokia, Panasonic, Condé Nast, Charles Schwab, and the Atlantic Magazine.
