Whimsical Artwork by Australian Artist Del Kathryn Barton

Del Kathryn Barton is a well renowned Australian artist born in 1972. She graduated with a degree in BFA from the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, Sydney in 1994. She specializes in whimsical paintings that often depict humans with their companion animals, and imaginative creatures. Her paintings are filled with bright colors, intricate patterns of dots painted in polymer paint, gouache, water color, pen, glitter and sequins.

She won the 2008 and 2013 Archibald Prize and is considered one of the most collectible Australian artist by Australian Art Collector. She is represented by Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery in Sydney. The artist has produced the animated film Oscar Wilde’s The Nightingale and the Rose which won the Film Victoria Erwin Rado Award for Best Australian Short Film. She has participated in number of solo exhibitions and group exhibitions nationally as well as internationally.

"The raw energy conveyed in her drawings, could be linked to the amount of time they take to create, “usually about 10-20 minutes” according to Barton. In contrast, Barton says her larger painted works are “just phenomenally labour intensive”. She can work on a single picture for more than a year. For these works, Barton does no preliminary drawings and she says she throws many canvases away." via Art Design.

David Zinn Doodles Quirky Characters in the Streets With Chalk

I've been following David Zinn and his street art on Instagram for a while now. His account is truly fun to browse, filled with amazing artwork. I featured David Zinn's street art a couple of years ago. The artist draws a delightful cast of characters with chalk and charcoal incorporating objects that he comes across on a street; such as manhole cover, a tuft of grass, street poles, and cracks on the side walk. These drawings make passersby stop in their tracks to admire and chat with the artist in person.

You can find more of his work on Instagram. His online store offers merchandise and prints based on his original work.
