Hand-Stitched Three Dimensional Sculptures by Anne Lemanski

Anne Lemanski creates amazing three dimensional animal sculptures from vintage paper, vinyl, textiles, wood veneer and copper rod. She bends and brazes the metal wires and rods to form a frame and then covers the frame with hand-stitched materials. Through her work she is exploring symbiotic relationship between humans and animals.

"I want to evoke something powerful and touching, without being sentimental. One of my focuses has been the complex, symbiotic relationship between humans and animals, highlighting our admiration for animals as symbols, and our exploitation of them to suit our needs" via.

She studied at Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy in 1990 and earned Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI in 1992. She has received North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship and in 2009 nominated for Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant. Her work is in several private collections including Asheville Art Museum, Asheville, NC, North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, NC , U.S. Department of State, Art in Embassies Collection, Karachi, Pakistan and more. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines and featured on blogs. She lives in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, and building a studio from recycled shipping containers.
