Portraits and Bird Illustrations Bring Vintage Maps to Life

It's been few years since I featured Mark Powell's amazing work (previously featured here). His incredible portraits and illustrations are made using ballpoint pen on vintage envelopes. What he uses as canvas for his work has expanded to vintage maps. He works around the lines on the paper incorporating them in his portraits representing wrinkles in portraits of the old characters.

"Each face I choose to draw has to have character and a suggestion of a history to tell. That way the viewer can create any narrative of a life that may have been lived. The same applies to the postcards or documents etc, neither the face or document have a connection beyond the fact both have an aesthetic quality of a history."

You can find the originals and limited edition prints on his website.
