Ethereal and Dreamy Paintings by Mary Alayne Thomas

Mary Alayne Thomas is a mixed media artist based out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was exposed to art early on in her life, raised by two artists. By the time she was only eleven years old she was illustrating children’s magazines. Her artwork is influenced by forest, fairy-tales and wildlife.

She was taken with the luminosity and versatility of watercolor, and after working with other mediums she discovered her own technique. She incorporates encaustic, gold leaf, India Ink, pencil and silkscreen. The watercolor artwork is coated with encaustic and the media are layered between the wax washes. The result of the process is soft, dreamy and ethereal artwork which has a beautiful depth.

Her work has been featured in New York, Seattle, Portland and her home state of New Mexico. You can see her work in person at the ongoing show at the Lotton Gallery, Bloomingdale's Building, Chicago, IL from April 1 through April 30, 2018. For more details on the event go here. Her paintings are available as limited edition prints on her online store Dream Squirrel.
