Mini Textile Dolls by Pantovola

Anouk de Groot is an artist from Scotland who gained BA in Fine Arts from the Institute for the Arts, Arnhem. She makes one-of-a-kind dolls for her label Pantovola that are inspired "by the magical world of childhood that is so full of fantastic imagination and wonderful creatures."

Her dolls are hand-stitched and handmade with vintage fabrics, art paints and embroidered. All her creatures have a distinctive and charming personalities.

"My creatures and creaturines are hugely shaped by my love for ancient folk tales and folk art, nature and it’s animals. But also by the memories I have from my own childhood, like going to a dusty puppet theater in an old farm with my gran or of dreaming away staring for hours into all the different rooms of the Victorian dolls houses displayed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and getting lost in in these miniature lives.

And I could spend hours in my own miniature world of dolls and puppets, making them clothes, fitting them hats and ruffs and so on. This is in many ways what I still do today."

Her newest series "Matchbox Mini" is a collection of miniature dolls that can be worn as brooches. The owl and the fox shown on the top are from the series. To see more of the dolls you can go to her online store or take a trip on her blog to learn about her process.

Amazing Layered Paper Sculptures

Calvin Nicholls carefully cuts paper in tiniest pieces and meticulously layers them to form animals and birds who seem to be climbing out of the frame. He starts with a drawing which becomes a pattern for the piece that he then cuts with tools like X-acto knife, scalpel, and scissors. He then assembles these pieces by gluing each paper individually in place. To finish each piece the artist spends anywhere from four weeks to two years.

He is recently honored with an Award of Excellence and the Artists' Choice award for his entry titled "Waiting in the Wings" - Wilson's Bird of Paradise. You can find more amazing paper sculptures by Calvin Nicholls blogged in the past here.
