Corinne Geertsen

Arizona based artist Corinne Geertsen creates surreal collages from her growing library of over 20,000 images that consists of her own photographs, old family photos, scans of all sorts of  everyday objects and hand-drawn and painted images. The combination of photography, photoshop and her imagination results into striking, whimsical and quirky images.

"The ideas come to me very gradually and slowly as I am assembling the pictures. Then I add and subtract objects, characters, lighting, shadows and textures to support and develop them. I am attracted to digital art because it is wide open. By combining disparate elements, you can call up a wide range of emotions, experiences and moods. Everyone sees something different in my pictures and (is) attracted to different things about them. I try to make my pictures evocative and quirky."

To learn more about her work go to her website.

I hope you enjoyed your week here with me.  I'll see you back on Monday with more owl-some posts.

Surreal Illustrations by Redmer Hoekstra

Netherlands based artist and illustrator Redmer Hoekstra is known for drawing incredible illustrations that are unconventional and intriguingly strange. His drawings is a fusion of animals and objects such as an owl with books for wings to a lizard with computer keyboard scales. The realistic and beautifully detailed drawings can take around 32 to 40 hours average to finish. For some these drawings can be disturbing, for others they can be hilarious. Which ever way you see them they are definitely a specimen of creativity and genius imagination.

“I’ve always loved alienation and fantasizing, daydreaming. As a child I had all kinds of theories about how the world worked. At the Academy I was able to rediscover this and process this in to my work. How things work is a fascination of mine and in many drawings you can find this. I open up appliances and objects and freely change what is inside . Often a subject gets a completely different feeling or meaning. I play with form, meaning and function, while new combinations arise. Often surprising, strange and funny but also with a strange kind of logic, a fantastic and surreal world.’’
