Sharon Montrose: Menagerie

Sharon Montrose's new book Menagerie is a fantastic collection of photographs of animals and eye- catching calligraphy by Julianna Swaney. The book consists of 192 pages featuring all kinds of cute animals from owls to deer to tiger to flamingo, "each animal has a pronounced identity—not unlike the eccentric uncle or prodigal cousin displayed among family portraits."

If you have been proscratinating on buying a gift for that special someone who loves cuddly animals then this book will make a perfect gift or add to your coffee table collection. You can order a copy of her book here.

I have never seen cookies shaped like moustaches and sunglasses. Have you? These cookies are true pieces of art created by Cookie Boy an artist based in Japan. He has made all kinds of cookies imaginable - cameras, beautiful feathers, kimonos, assortments of socks and of course, the Christmas owl.  I love the amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail. You can learn more about the artist and see more of his work here

Sergei Bobkov and Wooden Chips

Today I discovered these amazing and unique sculptures by Sergei Bobkov, a school teacher from Russia. He uses wood chips that have been soaked in water for several days and then shapes them into these highly intricate animal sculptures. It's not surprising, it takes painstaking around 12 hours each day for six months to complete one sculpture. He creates the life-sized sculptures as a hobby and he does not sell his magnificient pieces.

"It's not too interesting to do what other can, to create something out of nothing in a completely new way is far more inspiring." says Bobkov.

I have blogged about Ingela's amazing artwork before, here and recently found out about her book "100 Wood Block Figures". This book also knows as "family album" is a compilation of  her one hundred hand painted wood block figures that she started creating in her spare time and gradually grew into a wonderful collection which were later exhibited and sold all over the world. Each of her character has a unique personality and inspired by 50s and 60s style. I love them all, I want the little owl!
