Collection: Girl and The Owl

I'll end this week with this lovely collection "Girl and The Owl" which consists of artworks by some very talented people from all over the web. I wish you all a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday. Take care and be safe.

Kate MccGwire: Not Owl, Owl Feathers

I came across these amazing sculptures made by London based artist Kate MccGwire who uses number of recycled feathers to create these intriguing fluid forms.

The feathers used for these pieces are mainly from owls, pigeons & pheasants. "All of her feathers are received from a network of pigeon racers and farmers who mail her the feathers they have collected when their birds begin molting in the Spring." So, no bird is harmed!

If you want to see her incredible work in person then stop by at Eleventh Plateau, Hydra Historical Archives Museum, Greece where she will be exhibiting from July 8th through September 4th.

Mark Hearld is one of my all time favorite artists. He was trained in illustration at Glasgow School of Art and studied MA in Natural History Illustration at the Royal College of Art. His work shows influences of British countryside and artists, and his love for animals. He has worked in various medium like paint, print, ceramics and textiles. Following are few of prints that I hand-picked which show true style of Mark's energetic use of bold and vibrant colors.

I have featured his work previously, here.

Samantha Stas: Owl Tea and Egg Cosies

I know it's extremely hot in some parts of the world but we all still drink tea and like our eggs warm. Right?  My today's find are these adorable owl tea and egg cosies handmade by Samantha Stas. She found the love for textile when she was just a little girl and now have been working in the industry over 10 years. Her work is often inspired by children's books and all things nostalgic. Her adorable owl cosies are handmade using reclaimed wool and vintage fabric, and can be used all year around.

I recently discovered this wonderful blog "Scissor Paper Wok" of Kimanh where she shares all her wonderful creative projects. I am particularly impressed with the "How to Make Clothing Buttons from Shrink Plastic" tutorial which explains how you can make buttons with easy to follow step by step instructions using your own design or you can use the pre-designed template, available to download here for free!

Kimanh also made the owl template exclusively for My Owl Barn readers. Isn't she great! The template has three different sizes of design for owl buttons, perfect to decorate a sweater, a little girl's dress or to embellish any jewelry piece. The possibilities are endless!

Thanks, Kimanh!

These adorable owl tea towels will make drying dishes fun, and if you are like me then they'll hang from the kitchen wall (I won't be able to bring myself to use them) and keep you company while you fix the dinner.
