The Giant Owl

Koolpinyah Barnes a Larrakia community leader and widely known artits was commissioned by Urban Art Projects to recreate his Tawny Frogmouth Owl sculpture, Chinute Chinute, at Darwin Waterfront. The Giant Owl measuring 450mm in height and cast in bronze is now considered to be a sacred landmark for the local indigenous Larrakia people.

Artist's statement: "Chinute Chinute is a Larrakia spiritual ancestor who exists within the sacred site known as Stokes Hill adjacent to this walkway. This ancestor manifests itself from time to time as the Tawny Frogmouth and stands as sentinel to the Waterfront area."
