Collection: Interior Inspiration + News

Happy Friday! I'll wrap up this week with some interior inspiration and a news. First inspiration, I searched online and made a collection of few of the inspiring interiors in these beautiful homes. I hope these photos inspire your next room design. Do you see any thing inspiring and can use at home?

Second, for those of you who have been reading my blog from the beginning would know that I maintain two houses one in the US and the other in India, and I often hop between the two places. This time we are going to India sooner than we expected (our flight is this weekend.) Before I get totally sucked into packing, I want to wish you all a happy weekend. I'll report next week from India!

Cake In My Inbox

Jennifer Bunce is the head chef and owner of The Hudson Bakery who has loved baking ever since she was a little girl. In May 2009, Jennifer decided to quit the corporate world to "find a "sweeter" way of living" and turned her hobby into a full time business.

Yesterday, I received an email from Jennifer with the photos of the owl cake she recently made for her client. How adorable are all these woodland animals, birds and insects! Notice that little owl with the necktie. How very sweet!

Renegade Craft Fair San Francisco

There are so many wonderful artists who exhibit at Renegade Craft Fair every year and many of them make owl merchandise. I think I should visit the fair the next time, I have heard so many great things about it. For now, here are few of the photos of owl products displayed at the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco. Did you exhibit at or visit the fair this year?

I May Have Found My Twin

While browsing Flickr last night, I came across these photos taken by Christine at an Estate sale of an owl collector. My jaw dropped to the floor when I was this huge collection of owls. Her collection seems to have owls in every shape and size. I looked at these photos at least a hundred times, if not more, admiring every owl figurine, plate, lamp, jar, mugs and everything else the lady collected in the past 60 years. My heart is beating so fast while I am writing this post. I think I may have found my twin?

DwellStudio Etching Duvet Collection Review

I was asked by CSN to review any product from their site. For all of those who don't know CSN, it's a network of over 200 stores selling everything you can imagine. They have everything, from dining room furniture to cookware, from shoes to designer bags. I picked out this Etching Duvet set from DwellStudio for my review.

What I love about this product:

1. The bedding is inspired by classy and elegant toile, featuring sketches of birds, owls and flora in classic black and white. This will look great in most traditional and modern bedrooms.
2. It's not just any bedding; it's a bedding with 400 thread count cotton percale so you can enjoy the resort-like luxury everyday, in your home!
3. The duvet is available in three sizes - king, queen and full. The set includes duvet cover with hidden button closure and two French-back shams for easy pillow insertion.
4. This set is already popular and has been featured on major blogs like Design Sponge here.

I'm impressed! I hope you are too and find this review helpful. You can find the entire collection of the bedding here and enjoy free shipping with your purchase!

Laura McKellar

Laura McKellar is an illustrator and graphic designer based out of Melbourne, Australia. I am smitten by these digital graphic prints on fabric, completed with beautiful and intricate hand embroidery. Some of these are available for purchase at her store.

Purple It Is

When it comes to interior decoration, I always (automatically) lean towards neutral, warm and earthy colors. It's not that I don't like bright colors, it's just that I'm afraid that I might over do and it will go wrong. I don't own a thing in my house which is purple. Yes, I said it. Not a single purple thing. And, when I saw this rug my opinion was quickly changed. I was skeptical. Any dark color like purple can look gorgeous without being too overwhelming. Doesn't this rug featuring owl, moon and tree looks stunning in that living room in the first photo? So, what I learnt? Don't hide purple, decorate with it and of course, buy it first :) Are your neutral colors person or you take risk with dark colors?

Lena Wolff

Lena Wolff's is a bay area artist who creates whimsical world of hand painted paper cut collages. She starts by building background for her work with thin layers of gray paint which is then rubbed with powdered graphite. The paper surface is punctured with a needle to create pin pricks and then hand-painted cut pieces are pasted along with various sizes of hole-punched paper.

Her work is inspired by "by folk art, especially early American folk art, anthropomorphic fables, the natural world, textiles" and is often populated with animals, insects, birds and plants. The artist says: "I’m moved by everything living, the phenomena that makes it all happen and I like to make work that celebrates this."
